In a study by Harrison et al. (2015), families who eat together frequently (5-7+ meals per week together) have children who show more positive outcomes in reduced risk of weight issues, substance abuse, and eating disorders. Essentially, the higher the frequency of meal eating together the greater the chance the risk behaviors studied (weight issues, substance use, disordered eating) did not exist. Why is this important? Because as you create life changes in your own eating patterns with OTMIV it is positive to know you are set up a positive path for your family as well. Promoting positive eating habits such as meal eating at a table with family is important in so many aspects of our whole health approach.
